Explorers Leader:

District Explorers Group

Up until quite recently HGAS had a very lively and diverse Explorers group but were unable to continue to fully support the group due to the broad spectrum of activites required. Young people between the ages of 15 and 18 are now encouraged to join the District Explorers Group, based at Alderman Tye headquarters in Stourbridge.

Explorers is for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. With the support, direction and guidance from the Unit leaders, Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own programme and work towards the top awards that scouting offers, including the Duke of Edinburgh award and King's Scout award.

Explorers also have the opportunity to be part of the Explorer Scout Young Leader's Scheme to develop their leadership skills and sense of responsibility by helping to run meetings for the younger sections.

Further information about Explorers can be found at: https://stourbridgescouts.org/explorers

Explorers continue the skills learnt from their time as a scout and are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities, including those at a District level to work with other local Explorer units. They continue to participate in flying activities as part of an active Air Scout group and, at this level, are given the controls to learn to fly a plane.

Consideration is also given to other commitments for this age group, including revision and exams. There are a number of activity badges and ambitious top awards that Explorer Scouts can gain to recognise their achievements.

Scout Promise:

"On my honour, I promise that I will do my best, to do my duty to God and to The King, to help other people and to keep the Scout Law."
